M. Butterfly is a tale of a French Diplomat and his beautiful Chinese mistress of 20 years. Inspired by an actual espionage scandal, M. Butterfly evokes the world of 1960's Beijing where the married Rene Gallimard lusts for Song Liling the seductive, Chinese opera star.

Filled with searching insights into the human spirit this sweeping drama exposes western fantasies of Asian culture.
