Winner of the 1996 Tony Award for best play, the subject of Master Class is not only Maria Callas, but also the difficulty of inspiring talent. Maria Callas gives a master class to three opera students in front of a live audience – us. During the class, Callas glories in her own career, speaks poignantly of her childhood and her painful relationship with Aristotle Onassis, all the while, entertaining us with her sharp wit and diva-like demeanor. Ultimately, she shares with the audience the deep sacrifices she has made in the name of art.
