About the play: Based on the novel by Manuel Puig, Kiss of the Spider Woman relates the isolation of two very different men in a prison cell in Argentina in the 1970s. Valentin, a political activist who is sexually straight, shares a cell with Molina, a middle-class, gay window dresser in prison for his sexual activities. Valentin has sacrificed the joy of life and his one greatest love for a righteous ideal of social responsibility; Molina has relished his freedom and a movie-inspired fantasy life, inspired by Aurora, the Spider Woman. In an atmosphere of repression and mistrust, the Warden playing one man against the other, Valentin and Molina discover their capacity for love.
