GREY GARDENS
is based on the Albert & David Maysles documentary concerning the
relationship between Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’ eccentric aunt and cousin.
The touching and heart felt musical explores the unconventional mother-daughter
relationship between former socialite Edith Bouvier Beale and her adult
daughter Little Edie “body beautiful” Beale. GREY GARDENS tells an entertaining
and poignant story of two unconquerable women, once known as two
of the brightest stars in the social register, who later become East Hampton’s
most infamous “reclusive inhabitants”, sharing a rundown 28 room mansion
with 52 stray cats and rabid raccoons. The story starts in the 1940’s when Grey
Gardens and the Beales were getting ready for the event of the season:
celebrating Little Edie’s engagement to Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. and moves
forward 30 years later where we are witness to the decline of the once beautiful
Grey Gardens and the now eccentric and reclusive mother and daughter.
